Many couples planned their ideal Gulf Coast beach wedding before the BP oil disaster. Now, they’re either scrambling to find new venues or are determined to show their support for the region. Readers share how they’re coping with the oil spill disaster.

‘Hanging on to our dream’
The day the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded was the same day I found myself standing on the Alabama beach I was planning to get married on. I remember taking a moment to stand still on the beach to stare at an oil rig I had never noticed until then. I stood there thinking how unnatural it would look in the wedding pictures. I think about that day often. How silly it was to care that an oil rig would ruin my wedding scene… We are constantly back and forth on whether to change our location somewhere further inland. We have heard that many people in our similar situation have already chosen to cancel their beach weddings. [My fiancée] and I are one of the few hanging on to our dream of getting married on the beach. We are trying our best to not get stressed over all the last minute changes we may have to make in the next few months. We know that this oil spill is much bigger than our wedding. We want the defenseless sea life to be spared and have our fellow Alabama [residents] get the peace they justly deserve. — Casey Boswell (Daphne, Alabama)

‘I cried the entire day’
The day that I found out for sure that we were going to have to change our plans due to the oil spill, I cried the entire day. I felt like my childhood dreams of being a bride and having a perfect wedding had went out the window. I even got messages from my bridesmaids making sure that I didn’t have a meltdown. I am very stressed because it took me 10 months to fully plan my wedding and now I have one month and three weeks to re-plan the whole thing. We are also $400 short now because we lost our deposit for the wedding. My fiancé’s family lost $400 on their flights. My fiancé and I are having to work right up till the wedding to take care of all the expenses…. We have been very fortunate to have family and friends volunteer to helps us decorate and make food for the reception. Daily prayers
Since no one can guarantee that the oil won’t or will hit Fort Myers Beach and since many of the deposits were paid and friends and family had already booked flights and hotels, my fiancé and I decided that we would stick this out! Yashdeep Nain and Sreejita De in Star One Horror Nights

Yashdeep Nain of Perfect Bride fame will be seen with Sreejita De in one of the stories of Star One Horror Nights..

Star One’s weekend thriller show, Star One Horror Nights has gained good reviews in the initial few weeks, and a flurry of known actors have already been part of the show.

Yesterday, TellyBuzz had reported about Ridhi Dogra, Himmanshoo Malhotra featuring in one of the stories of the show which will be aired on June 12th.

The episode after this will feature Sreejita De and Yashdeep Nani of Perfect Bride fame as the leads.

According to our source, “Sreejita and Yashdeep play a couple who move from Delhi to Mumbai. They take a house on low rent and try to settle down. This is where the main story starts, wherein there is a mirror in the house which is evil. Lot of horrifying incidents happen in the house, after which the wife seeks help from a Professor played by Gufi Paintal to tackle the evil spirit”.

When contacted, Sreejita De confirmed the news and said, “Yes, I am shooting for an episodic of Star One Horror Nights. I am very happy to have got back to Star One with two shows, Miley Jab Hum Tum and Star One Horror Nights”.

For Yashdeep, this will be his first fiction opportunity after being part of Star Plus’ Perfect Bride. When contacted, he stated, “This is my first fiction show, and it is very different from reality. My role here is very good, and I am taking this as a learning experience”.

The duo is shooting for the episode presently, and the episode featuring them will be aired on 19th June.

Star Plus is back at No. 1… for now

Ten years ago, Star Plus went all Hindi. And as we know, several things happened. Kaun Banega Crorepati and saas-bahu serials became national obsessions. Amitabh Bachchan resurrected his fading career (and how — he’s still doing dozens of films and endorsements). Tulsi and gang became part of everyone’s extended family (but remember, those were the innocent days when the serial was still sweet and homely and Tulsi was half her current size). Anyway, Star Plus zoomed to the top and became the country’s No. 1 channel, which it remained till last year when it was unseated by new entrant Colors. After all those years, the channel had seemed a bit worn at the edges. Just like its soap-serial characters: Ba was about 150 years old, but miraculously still alive and kicking. Tulsi was still staggering from family crisis to family crisis. Parvati had had a makeover but no one could remember why. (That’s because the stories had got so convoluted that if anyone had actually tried to figure them out, their collective brain cells would’ve gone into fatal spasms. Thankfully, no one tried). But at the moment, as Star celebrates its tenth anniversary, things are looking good. The channel is back at the No. 1 position and while it’s unlikely that it will remain at that slot, unchallenged, for another ten years, it has reclaimed its numero uno title by a convincing margin — for the moment, at least.

Tulsi and Parvati have gone away (and not a day too soon) but both of them reappeared as Tulsi and Parvati at the recently telecast Star Parivaar Awards (where the new look of the channel was revealed — everything is a bright red now).

The two bahus spoke about how the Star parivaar is a very happy parivaar and everyone loves everyone and so on and so forth. I had no difficulty believing them because all the actors and actresses came dressed as their screen characters and were addressed by their screen names throughout. (Or maybe Akshara’s real name is Akshara and Dadaji is called Dadaji and nothing else but Dadaji off screen too — who knows?) I also have no idea what all these people look like in real life — I can’t believe that the women waltz around their homes in those 10 kg sarees the way they do in their soaps and serials. I was also a bit distracted by the awards themselves — there were categories like Favourite Saas and Favourite Bahu (naturally), but there were also awards for Favourite Buzurg, Favourite Bhai, Favourite Behen and so on. Because I have to watch soaps and serials (the things I have to do in the line of duty), I could actually recognise quite a few of the characters, but for viewers who aren’t plastered to their TV sets, it must have been a little like Alice in Wonderland.

Prominent guests in the audience included Ekta Kapoor who is back on Star Plus with a new serial Tere Liye (no, that’s not the way Ekta Kapoor spells it —but honestly, you don’t want to know). It’s a Bengali love story in that the characters are Bengali and it’s set in Bengal and has a heavy Parineeta-Devdas hangover. Whether it’s anywhere close to those two movies, well, we’ll have to wait and see.

And finally. Colors is not sitting around either, obligingly ceding its place to Star Plus. New shows include Kitchen Champion, a reality show anchored by Ronit Roy, in which female characters from Colors serials such as Balika Vadhu and Na Aana Is Des Lado participate in a cookery competition. Ronit is a warm, cheerful host and everyone looks like they’re having fun.

And so the channel wars continue!

Something’s brewing between Amrita Rao and Rajbeer

Something incredibly unexpected is taking place in Karjat on the sets of Star Plus’ Perfect Bride.

If sources are to be believed Amrita Rao herself would turn out to be the Perfect Bride on Star Plus’ reality show that goes by the same name.

According to our source, “We have often noticed Amrita’s searching eyes come to a smooth stop at Rajbeer’s face. Even when she mentors Rajbeer the changed attitude is evident through she attempts at downplaying it.” The source adds, “Already Rajbeer is receiving a lot of flak from the boys for being a sort of favorite amongst the girls. And now this new development could only add to his troubles.”

The source further adds, “Then there is Priyanka who is ready to bite the head off of any girl who even glances at Rajbeer’s direction. Wonder how she will react to the fact that one of the most eligible girls of this country is secretly nurturing a crush on Rajbeer.”

It seems that the unpredictability of today’s youth gives credibility to this rumor! “You never know. Amrita is of marriageable age and being a normal young girl she is bound to get attracted to good looking young men. And Rajbeer I’m sure like the many boys of our country is already bowled over by Amrita. If by the end of the show, they declare that they are going to get married, we will certainly not be surprised,” says the source.

Well, Amrita has always been linked to her co-stars. Unless she makes the official announcement about her ‘chosen one’, we can only keep guessing!

The success of NDTV Imagine’s Rakhi ka swayamvar has paved the way for other channels too indulge into match-making. Star Plus first started the trend with Star Vivaah and now they’ll continue to do the good work by launching a new show which is based on the international reality show – The Perfect Bride.

A reliable source informs, “This show is a licensed version of the international reality show The Perfect Bride. Here, the prospective groom’s mother will look for a girl and convince her to give a chance to her son. The girl and the guy meet for the first time in the show only. Now from there they both will be given different tasks to prove their love and compatibility for each other. In the end just three mother-son pairs are left and five Perfect Bride candidates to choose from. The favourite mother-in-law, selected by popular audience vote through SMS, is finally allowed to choose her Perfect Bride. If the girl accepts, the couple will then be entitled to the magnificent wedding in the finale of The Perfect Bride.”

Adding further the source says, “The shoot of the show was supposed to start from 12 August at N.D. studios in Karjat but it has been delayed as just now viewers have seen two marriage-based reality shows. So, the channel decided to give it some more time. Till then audience will enjoy Farah Khan’s chat show Tere Mere Beech Mein. The Perfect Bride is probably an in-house production.”

We sent a text message to Star Plus’ GM and EVP Keertan Adhyanthaya but there was no reply.

The Perfect Bride TV format is an entertainment and reality show represented by Global Agency. The Perfect Bride reality show (originally known as Gelinim Olur musun) has broken ratings records in Turkey, Italy and the Middle East.

Mumbai/Kolkata, Sept 8 : Every youth’s dream to have a perfect bride and every mother’s dream to have the perfect bahu will come alive on Star Plus.
Beginning Sept 12, viewers will be privy to a 13 week journey of 10 beautiful girls and 5 eligible boys as they come together in search of India’s Perfect Bride, along with the boy’s mother for company.

As it is said that ‘Marriages are made in heaven…’, thus Star Plus and Meditech bring a unique reality show called ‘The Perfect Bride’ which will see the five eligible bachelors looking out for a perfect match with their mummies. The show starts on 12 September.

The concept of the show is adapted from the abroad based show called by the same name. The similar show has worked well in Turkey and Italy. The concept of the show is about a mother son pair looking out for a perfect girl. 5 pairs of Mother Son will begin the show with 10 prospective brides to be. To add more glamour Amrita Rao has been taken in as the panel of mentors with Malaika Arora Khan and Shekhar Suman in the show.

The shows also have an audience voting and eviction of want to be brides and grooms. At the end of the show that one pair will choose from the remaining bride on the show and if the girl agrees the wedding will take place on the channel it self.

Though the channel and the production house doesn’t give the guarantee of marriage on television but for sure there will be a more drama and kit pit of saas bahu on the show.
